ForwardCancer and the Alkaline Diet — Making Sense of the Hype
This continuing education course examines the relationship between cancer and the alkaline diet. It reviews the basics of metabolism and identifies differences between normal cellular metabolism and cancer cell metabolism, within the concept of pH balance. This course also will highlight common alkaline diet restrictions and compare those with evidence-based recommendations.
Learning Objectives
After completing this continuing education course, nutrition professionals should be better able to:
- Explain the premise of the alkaline diet.
- Assess the differences between cellular, blood, and urine/saliva pH.
- Discuss evidence that supports and refutes the alkaline diet theory.
- Educate health professionals, patients, and the public about evidence-based dietary recommendations for cancer patients and survivors.
