Nutrition Interventions for Pancreatic Insufficiency

This course will provide an overview of the etiology for pancreatic insufficiency and will highlight relevant diseases. Conditions such as chronic pancreatitis, acute pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis, and pancreatic cancer can cause pancreatic insufficiency and require specialized MNT. Additionally, pancreatic surgeries, such as a pancreaticoduodenectomy or Whipple procedure, require individualized MNT as well. Specific nutrients of concern will therefore be discussed. The use of pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy to supplement the insufficiency, as well as appropriate oral nutrition supplements, will also be highlighted in this course.

Course content appeared as the CPE Monthly in the August/September 2024 edition of Today's Dietitian.
