Hazardous Supplements: Dietary Supplements and Their Interactions

This continuing education course will evaluate dietary supplements for their safety and efficacy, with a focus on supplements that claim to improve health. Identification of hazardous supplements and their origins, application, and potential interactions will be reviewed as well as regulatory gaps and adverse events.

Learning Objectives

After completing this continuing education course, nutrition professionals should be better able to:

  1. Define the term “dietary supplement” per the FDA and explain the potential effects of regular usage.
  2. Distinguish five hazardous supplements and identify why they’re considered hazardous.
  3. Analyze current government oversight of dietary supplements in the United States.
