The Association Between Weight Stigma, Restrictive Diets, and Eating Disorders

This continuing education course explores the literature surrounding weight stigma, dieting practices, and the onset of disordered eating habits and/or eating disorders. It also discusses interventions other than dieting that RDs can consider implementing in practice.

Learning Objectives

After completing this continuing education course, nutrition professionals should be better able to:

  1. Examine the role of weight stigma in the development of eating disorders.
  2. Identify disordered eating behaviors associated with both general dieting behaviors and chronic dieting practices.
  3. Discuss nutrition interventions other than dieting for use in clinical practice.
