Health Benefits of Dried Plums

This continuing education course reviews the role of dried plums as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agents and examines clinical trials to date that study the effects of dried plums on health.

Learning Objectives

After completing this continuing education course, nutrition professionals should be able to:
 

  1. Identify dried plums as an excellent source of phenolic compounds that have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
  2. State the mechanisms by which dried plums are a therapeutic agent for prevention and treatment of osteoporosis, constipation, and CVD, and weight management.
  3. Discuss randomized controlled trials to date that have evaluated the effect of dried plums on bone health in postmenopausal women.
  4. Provide recommendations for consumption of dried plums to benefit patients and clients.
