Webinar: RDA is the Floor, Not the Ceiling: Optimizing Protein Intake with Smart, Practical Strategies

April 22, 2026

The protein conversation is shifting. While the recommended daily allowance (RDA) of 0.8 g/kg/day prevents deficiency, it may not be enough to support optimal muscle health, metabolic function, satiety, and healthy aging. So, what does “optimal” protein really look like—and how do we help patients achieve it?

Join David Church, PhD, and Leslie Bonci, MPH, RD, CSSD, LDN, FAND, on Wednesday, April 22, from 2-3 p.m. ET, for a dynamic webinar that moves beyond the minimum and explores emerging science on protein requirements, essential amino acids, and bioavailability across different protein sources. With new protein recommendations in the 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGAs), Dr. Church and Leslie will help you gain clarity how the science has evolved, how protein quality influences outcomes, and what that means in everyday practice. Watch the science come to life as the presenters discuss practical, realistic strategies to help patients meet higher protein targets, distribute intake across the day, and use protein as a tool to increase fruit and vegetable consumption in alignment with the DGAs. Plus, you’ll see what 20 grams of protein actually looks like across various food formats so you can better guide patients on calories, volume, and nutrient density.

Walk away with evidence-based insights and actionable strategies you can implement in your practice immediately.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, nutrition professionals will be better able to:

  1. Differentiate between the RDA for protein and evidence-based optimal protein intake ranges for various populations.
  2. Compare common animal and plant protein sources in terms of essential amino acid (EAA) density, digestibility, and practical dietary application.
  3. Identify at least three practical strategies to help patients achieve higher protein intakes.
  4. Demonstrate how protein foods can be paired strategically to increase fruit and vegetable intake in alignment with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGAs).
