2023 Symposium Recorded Session: Prebiotics and Gut Microbiota: Establishing a Healthy Trajectory from Early Life to Adulthood
BENEO-Institute #21932 is approved by the CDR to offer 1.0 CEU for this activity.
Due to the overwhelming success of this lunch presentation during the Today's Dietitian Spring Symposium in Savannah, we are offering this content as a complimentary 1-credit continuing education webinar with support from BENEO-Institute, an initiative that provides the latest research and knowledge in nutrition science and legislation related to natural plant-sourced ingredients such as fibers like chicory root fibers & barley beta-glucans, carbohydrates (isomaltulose), proteins and more.
This session examines the potential for dietary factors, including prebiotics, to modify the gut microbiota and highlight clinical and public health applications of prebiotics for chronic disease management throughout different life stages. Given that dietary and microbial exposures in early life are known to be highly influential in programming health and chronic disease risk later in life, this session examines recent research looking at the role of prebiotics in pregnancy and infancy/childhood. Recent research on the potential role of prebiotics in managing chronic diseases, such as obesity and osteoarthritis, is also explored. The presentation concludes with ways in which health professionals can consider gut microbiota and prebiotics to improve chronic disease risk in public health and clinical settings.
Learning Objectives
After attending this session, nutrition professionals should be able to:
- Understand the importance of the gut microbiota in health and disease risk across the lifespan.
- Examine the potential for dietary factors, including prebiotics, to modify the gut microbiota.
- Highlight clinical and public health applications of prebiotics for chronic disease management.
