Nutritional Implications of Corticosteroid Use

This continuing education course provides a brief overview of the physiology associated with corticosteroids, their exogenous use, and their implications for nutrition status. It also discusses the role of the RD in optimizing nutrition outcomes among individuals requiring corticosteroid treatment strategies.

Learning Objectives

After completing this continuing education course, nutrition professionals should be better able to:

  1. Assess and discuss the nutritional implication of corticosteroid treatment, and list at least four side effects that may be managed through nutrition intervention.
  2. Interpret how nutrition status may be linked to corticosteroid treatment.
  3. Evaluate the nutrition needs of clients requiring corticosteroid treatment and implement dietary recommendations to meet nutritional needs.
