2026 Spring Symposium Recorded Meal Session: Buzzing with Benefits: Honey for Nutrition and Wellness

As consumers increasingly seek foods that support both physical and emotional well-being, registered dietitians have an opportunity to translate emerging nutrition science into simple, enjoyable and sustainable everyday habits. This session explores the latest research on honey and its potential role within a balanced approach to nutrition and wellness.

In this session, Dana Angelo White, MS, RDN, ATC, will examine current research on honey's unique carbohydrate and bioactive composition, gut health, sweetness and palatability, and its use within Mediterranean-style eating patterns. The session will also explore honey's practical application in sports nutrition, including its role as a readily available carbohydrate source before and during exercise and as part of carbohydrate-protein combinations that support post-exercise recovery.

Beyond physical nutrition, the session will examine emerging consumer research on the connection between food, self-care and emotional well-being. Attendees will learn how consumers incorporate honey into small daily "reset" rituals and how sensory experiences, enjoyment and mindful eating can complement broader wellness practices.

Throughout the session, research will be translated into practical strategies RDs can use with clients and patients, including using honey to enhance the enjoyment of nutrient-dense foods, make Mediterranean-style dietary swaps more approachable, reduce sugar and calories through sweetness equivalency, fuel active lifestyles, and create simple food-based self-care rituals. Attendees will leave with evidence-informed ideas for helping clients make small, realistic changes that support nutritious eating while preserving the pleasure and enjoyment of food.
