Recorded Webinar: Menopause & "Manopause:" Coping with Midlife Health Together (MENOPAUSE BUNDLE)

This webinar took place on November 1, 2023.

Physical changes are a natural part of aging for both women and men. Menopause is widely accepted as a natural, biological event in a woman’s life, however, the changes that men endure during midlife and beyond are often ignored in these discussions. In fact, for both men and women, beginning in the 4th decade of life, hormonal shifts occur and are associated with physical bodily changes as well as psychological challenges. An increased prevalence of body dissatisfaction, drive for thinness, disordered eating, and problematic exercise behaviors exist for aging adults of both genders at a time in life when diseases of aging, including prostate cancer and breast cancer, are top of mind in men’s and women’s health. Moreover, a lack of knowledge about a partner’s symptoms can emotionally strain communication and their relationships. This presentation will provide a platform for care team members to understand the similarities and unique differences in hormonal shifts and the physiological effects of aging. Best practices for managing clients’ symptoms will be explored with a unique emphasis on the importance of educational interventions to further benefit clients and their partners through this life transition.

On Wednesday, November 1, 2023, from 2-3:30 p.m. ET, join Val Schonberg MS, RDN, CSSD, LD, NCMP and David Orozco MS, RDN, LD, CIEC, EP-C, for an interactive, interprofessional webinar that discusses both the similarities and unique differences in Menopause and “Manopause.” This expert duo will discuss tools and detail strategies that will help you serve your patients more efficiently by using nutrition and a team-based approach to overall care.

Learning Objectives

After completing this continuing education activity, health care professionals and clinicians will be better able to:

    1. Define menopause and “manopause” and differentiate the similarities of aging from the unique differences in hormonal shifts that occur for midlife men and women.
    2. Identify the physical and psychological changes that accompany this stage of life and the underlying causes of the symptomatology.
    3. Utilize other disciplines on the healthcare team to employ evidence-based, weight-neutral strategies to help patients navigate the health challenges associated with midlife and beyond in both male and female individuals.
    4. Analyze future gaps and challenges in incorporating best practices for men’s and women’s health during aging and beyond.
