Whole Body MRI (WB-MRI): Oncology Applications

Whole-body MRI (WB-MRI) is rapidly emerging as a powerful imaging tool for cancer screening, staging, treatment response assessment, and long-term surveillance without the use of ionizing radiation. In this presentation, Eduardo D. Campuzano, BS, RT(R)(MR)(CT), ARMRIT, MRSO(MRSC), will explore the clinical applications of WB-MRI in oncology, including lymphoma, multiple myeloma, skeletal metastases, Li-Fraumeni syndrome, and neurofibromatosis syndromes. Attendees will gain an understanding of protocol design, pulse sequence optimization, diffusion-weighted imaging, quantitative analysis, and AI-enhanced reconstruction techniques. Practical considerations for image quality, workflow efficiency, and future directions in WB-MRI will also be discussed.

Learning Objectives

  1. Explain why Whole Body MRI (WB-MRI) is needed in Oncology.
  2. Identify clinical applications for WB-MRI.
  3. Discuss technology considerations including pulse sequences, parameters optimization, and coverage.
  4. Examine how AI reconstructs scan time and image quality.
  5. Interpret WB-MRI post processing through quantitative analysis.
