Backstage AI: Why the Technologist’s Role is More Important Than Ever
AI is now embedded in most MRI consoles, combining deep-learning reconstruction and AI-driven planning automation under a single interface. Many MR professionals lack formal training to distinguish learned models from conventional processing or identify where AI operates across the imaging pathway. This gap is most acute in cardiac MRI, where workforce shortages, complex protocols, long exam times, and limited automated quality assessment restrict routine clinical use.
This course replaces marketing terminology with practical technical vocabulary, compares vendor platforms using published capability ratings, and introduces a supervisory framework for console use.
Topics include neural-network fundamentals, deep learning evolution, FDA-authorized AI devices, Siemens and GE platform capabilities, cardiac automation, automated landmarking, plane planning, and artifact detection.
Participants will leave able to differentiate automation types, identify where AI functions across the pathway, compare cardiac AI across vendors, and apply a supervisory checklist while retaining accountability for each exam.
Learning Objectives
1. Differentiate deep-learning reconstruction from AI-driven planning automation
2. Describe where AI operates across the MRI pathway
3. Compare cardiac automation across Siemens, GE and vendor-neutral platforms
4. Explain how automated landmarking and plane planning address CMR difficulty
5. List the supervisory responsibilities when AI-assisted acquisition is in use
