Recorded Arrhythmia Strategies in Cardiac MRI: How to Guarantee a Diagnostic Outcome

With the need for MRI cardiac procedures growing, CMR is no longer just being performed in highly specialized academic institutions. Instead, rural hospitals and clinics are under pressure to ramp up CMR programs in an attempt to address the demand and increase access to specialized cardiovascular care. As a result, technologists also need to be properly trained in the subspecialty of cardiac MRI. In this talk, we will discuss the cine technique within CMR and the best practices to combat arrhythmias in order to achieve the best diagnostic outcomes for any patient, regardless of the way their heart beats. Understanding these strategies is crucial to preventing false negatives in all clinical settings.

Learning Objectives

  1. Define arrhythmias.
  2. Identify the key components of ECG and its role in CMR.
  3. Compare the various types of arrhythmias and their impacts on clinical MRI studies.
  4. Compare and contrast pulse sequences commonly utilized in CMR examinations.
  5. Identify and describe various K-space filling methods commonly utilized in CMR studies.
  6. Discuss various techniques and strategies that can be utilized based on the type of arrhythmia present.
  7. Discuss the concept of Human Simulation and its impact on CMR training.
