MR Safety by Design: Procedures, Policies, and Practices That Protect Patients
This presentation provides a streamlined overview of the essential procedures that strengthen MRI safety and reduce preventable risk. We will review the importance of establishing formal MRI Safety Roles—particularly the MRMD—and explore how well-defined policies, procedures, and safety workflows support consistent practice. Key safety interventions will be highlighted, including the use of ferromagnetic detection (FMD), appropriate padding and positioning to prevent burns, and structured assessment of MRI’s three energies—static field, gradient fields, and RF energy—to guide safe scanning. Attendees will gain a practical, operational understanding of the components that create a reliable and compliant MRI safety program.
