This continuing education activity, Pocket Guide to Eating Disorders, Second Edition, consists of a pocket guide of the same title by Jessica Setnick, MS, RD, CEDRD, and this study guide. This activity is designed to help you become competent at applying the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) to clients with eating disorders. It is also designed to help you earn 17 continuing education credits for dietetics (CDR CPEU). 

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, nutrition professionals will be better able to:

  1. Identify the four steps of the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) and the domains of each step.
  2. Apply the NCP when treating clients with eating disorders.
  3. Apply the DSM-5 Criteria for eating disorders when implementing the NCP.
  4. Discuss the role of the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) when treating individuals with eating disorders.
  5. Select appropriate questions to ask clients during the interviewing process of the Nutrition Assessment.

Michel D. Harris, DCN, MS, RDN, LDN, CDCES, is a lecturer in the nutrition department at Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois. She also works as a per diem inpatient clinical dietitian at Swedish Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.

Michel earned a BS and MS at Benedictine University, completed her dietetic internship at Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital, and is currently working on her Doctorate in Clinical Nutrition through the University of North Florida’s program. During her 20-year career, she has worked in a variety of clinical, community, outpatient, and food service facilities. She is the past owner of a private practice that specialized in counseling clients with eating disorders. In her current role as a lecturer, she enjoys advising students and developing innovative methods to apply nutrition knowledge. She resides with her son and husband in the Uptown community of Chicago and considers New Orleans as her second home. When she has spare time, crafting, cooking, visiting parks, and traveling with her family are a few of the activities she enjoys.
